Sugar Plant Industry for an Instrumentation Engineer

i Dont know much about sugar plants as i have not worked there... but i will try getting info by "scuba diving" into google searches... (kidding)

and the book quotes:
"Now a day’s Sugar Industries have become more difficult to operate & control, because of the ever growing needs to improve efficiency with superior quality and maintain profitability. This book provides a complete insight into the Sugar Plant Automation and is definitely a good source of information for the people interested in Process Automation in general and Sugar plant Automation in particular. It also includes various Process Flow Diagrams, loop Schematics, Graphic pages and Applications required for Sugar Plant Automation using Advance Control Systems."

The instrumentation part of the sugar plants are also going through complex requirements. These day few plants have started using Temperature and pressure Transmitters of HART and ProfiBus capability. These features provide the control system with more data related to the transmitter like, ambience conditions, healthy signal conditions, abnormal or fault and self diagnostic capability with which the transmitters can be programmed to send a safe value with respect to the plant running condition, while the transmitter is undergoing safety or preventive maintenance.

The driving force of any plant is the motors and Variable Speed Drives. Lots of sugar plants have VFDs installed for all of their motors since it helps in reducing the power consumed by the motors when the production is not in its peak. These VFDs are in turn connected, controlled and speed tuned through DCS controls with their precise and accurate Analog output data.

Primarily, this being a small to medium scale industry with maximum 100 headcount, sugar industries can be set up with-in few sqmtr place and can be commissioned in 6-9 months to normal production.

will continue this with more clarity on the subject.
